Is warp speed possible ?

Its been a staple of science fiction series' such as Star Trek for decades, but in reality how plausible is warp speed ?
Some scientists believe that something similar to warp speed may have been achieved at the very beginning of the universe as it expanded following the Big Bang.
The Theory of Relativity states that it's impossible to move through spacetime faster than the speed of light - and many, many things have been observed which confirm this fact. Almost all of them, in fact. So the "simple" solution (for a sufficiently radical definition of "simple") is to move the spacetime instead. Then you're not breaking the lightspeed limit, you're just picking up a piece of reality and throwing it faster than anything can ever move.

Man you lost me at "This is an interesting article " LOL. Well either way its an interesting theory thats for sure. I know they have been working on Ion propulsion for some time now. Science really needs to learn to walk before they can run, so to speak. Very interesting read tho.

could it be that in reality you are moving at ftl speeds but the only way to explain it is that your not moving but space is.

i dont see it happening in our lifetime but hey our grand kids grand kids grand kids will be spreading all over the universe, space the final frontier, exploring new worlds and civilizations to boldly go where robots have probly been but noone has been before (depending on the next generations of american presidents it wont be american led lol)*star trek theme* du du du du du du du dum dum dum dum dum dum dum dum duuuuuuuuum lol. would be cool though FTL drives getting to explore the universe there must be so much out there, the pereodic table will probely be a pereodic dictionary by the time ... My physics department just had a seminar describing the possibility of "warp drive." The name of the propulsion is Alcubierre drive. New analysis by Christopher Van Den Broeck shows that it would take around 3g-3mg*c^2 of energy to bend spacetime and propel the vehicle. It also involves shrinking the spaceship's area to only a few magnitudes of the planck length while leaving the volume of the space ship the same. Basically, its a spaceship riding a wave of space, so the ship is not even moving. Therefore, relativity is not violated.

My personal feeling is that FTL travel is impossible...until we learn a way around the rules we have imposed on ourselves. Looking back on how quickly our understanding of the universe is improving, it is just a matter of time until some new particle is found that changes the rules as we know it, making ftl possible. Consider what a person from just 200 years ago would think if they could be brought forward in time to current day; all of the science that makes life so comfortable for us would be absolute magic for that time traveler. Little innovations in science compound on each other; and kn... [More]

If memory serves me correctly I recall reading about the ion engines way back before they are now planning to use them, The scientists in todays world are now talking about FTLT warp drive and the likes so I would not be a bit surprised that in a few generations of scientist would eventually get it figured out, Science is already looking for dark matter which I believe would assist greatly in propultion, IDK though I could be thinking of this entirely the wrong way as im not a scientist nor physistist but in my mind it will be figured out one day,

There is one thing faster than the speed of light and thats heredity.

There are some videos in this link but I can not get them to play, Anyways I thought this article is mind opening, Correct: the so called beam ships described by Billy Meiers nullifies time, also the same type of ship Otis Carr and affiliates made does the same. So warp drive is already out dated and rendered OBSOLETE. We have the technology and have had it since the early 50's although then it was still in infancy. Yeah yeah you're going to say why has it been secret. Well actually there are a number of reasons for this. #1 They don't want you to know and falling into the "wrong hands". #2 it... [More]
