A four inch nail from the time of Christ's crucifixion has been discovered inside an ornate box in a Templar stronghold.
The box was buried with three skeletons on the island of Ilheu de Pontinha, off Madeira. It is thought that the nail was there because the Knights Templar had believed it to be a genuine artefact from Christ's crucifixion.
A nail from the time of Christ's crucifixion which was hidden by the same knights who featured in The Da Vinci Code has been found in a dig. The four-inch Roman relic, stored in an ornate box, was uncovered by archaeologists working at a fort thought to have been a former Knights Templar stronghold.

Churches all over England and France had "Artifacts", claiming to be an arm or leg of some saint, to a tooth of Jesus. Of course, chances are none of these were genuine. Just like this nail.

My first post was an uninformed one. Now that I've read more on this at other sites I realize what a big load of crap it is.

Good on ya mate Most of the hype we get about religious artifacts comes from those that want it the most and tend to really dig to find that connection that can cement there beliefs, as even they must have doubts themselves as to the validity that Jesus even existed.

I didn't get from the OP that any one was trying to claim that it was a nail from the crucifixion of Jesus. Just that it was deliberately placed in a box buried with Templar Knights, that would lead one to believe it was thought to be a relic, and that it appeared to be a nail in the style used about the time attributed to the crucifixion of Jesus. I didn't argue for or against, pro-belief or not. I just think it's cool when fact and myth/legend kind of converge, be it a biblical one, or otherwise. Hell, I feel the same way when facts about Dracula (or Vlad Tepest or whatever) are found to cor... [More]

Yes that's true.many churches throughout all of Europe claimed to have relics of some saint or another. One of the largest collections of religious relics is the Shrine of the Holy Relics in Missouri or Ohio, and taken care of by the Sisters of the Precious Blood of Jesus. In Trier, in Europe, they claim to have the Holy Coat, a garment worn by Jesus and there is another city which also claims to have a seam... Unlikely, as there are already over 30 nails venerated as being used at the crucifixion of Christ. Not to mention the one reshaped into the Iron Crown of Lombardy, Charlemagne's Girdle, the Spear of Destiny etc, etc. The spear of destiny was the spear that pierced Christ's side, not a spear made from a nail. Since I have never heard that any of the other things you say are supposed to have been made from the iron of one of the nails I now doubt your entire post.

Still does not mean that the son of god was crucified, just means that a nail as been found that was used in local nail ups
