Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic space tourism flights could launch from an RAF base in Scotland.
The company is hoping to begin flights by 2015 and is currently attempting to appeal for legislation to be changed in Britain to permit commercial flights.
Virgin Galactic is confident that space tourism will go ahead by 2012 in the U. S. – having already taken more than $65million (£45million) in bookings from 335 wannabe astronauts. About 50 per cent of those already signed up are American, with the next biggest interest coming from Britain.

Other than the chance to be in a weightless environment, what is the appeal of going into space?

Being there. It's something few people have ever done. Besides, when you're facing away from the sun, with the earth blocking it, the view is bound to be clearer than it is on Earth.

Other than the chance to be in a weightless environment, what is the appeal of going into space? To share in some thing greater than our selves. Either you feel it or you dont. I am old, fat, and toothless. And if given the chance I would go in a heart beat!

I wonder if we will see Corporate space mining, or Corporate orbital energy generation anytime soon. If so, it will open up the can of worms on who can own a piece of space and who owns what is out in space.

Sir Richard Branson’s UK Space Agency has identified Lossiemouth as the ‘ideal’ location from where a spaceflight would take off. If the place is Scottish, you'll like it a lottish
