A Russian scientist claims to have developed an eternal youth pill that will be available within 2 years.
Professor Vladimir Skulachev says that he's worked on the solution to ageing for 40 years and that the pill works by staving the damaging effects that oxygen has on the body's cells.
It may sound like science fiction but researchers believe they have discovered the 'Holy Grail' - an anti-ageing pill that will add decades to our lives.

a great breakthrough, but not so great effects. i hoestly cant decide if this is fair or not... i mean it could cause cause economic problems, over population, and only more pollution. but what do i know?

I don't. The planet doesn't have a consciousness, it doesn't give a damn if we live or not. The resources are there to be used. Science has always been prolonging our lives. There was a time when people didn't even make it to the age of 40. So, I don't get why some of you would say that it is "wrong" to live longer. YOU are already living longer...Also, the whole "overpopulation" thing has already been debunked countless of times, I'm not even gonna talk about that. Some would beg to differ if the planet lives or not. Everything comprised of energy has a type of understanding. You say the reso... [More]

People actually think Governments are going to give this to the public?

People actually think Governments are going to give this to the public? Of course they'll allow it. Why shouldn't they? It's just that a lot of people probably won't trust it... I mean look at how many people are scared of a simple vaccine. ETA: The government won't directly give anything to anyone, the pharmaceutical companies will. I'm assuming that's what the poster meant.

I love the sound of a nail being hit on the head! Imagine being 21 for 70-80 years, with all the energy and vigour of youth, but with the wisdom that experience brings..... or better yet.... imagine yourself 70-80 years old with the vigour of youth, still working, and paying taxes. Do you think they will raise the drinking age? Amyway with my luck.... I'll take the pill, and then get hit by a car.

I'm more amazed that people can take seriously the proposition that a single substance in pill form can significantly slow or reverse aging. We don't work like that. We are VERY complicated systems, and the second law of thermodynamics takes its toll. Trees can live for thousands of years because they are modular; reptile for hundreds because they live slowly. For us to significantly extend average lifespan past eighty would take a LOT of very basic work. Extending HEALTH, on the other hand, is more a matter of lifestyle.

It would be inhumane to NOT have this pills directed to the mass media. It would be like having the cure for cancer, instead charging people their entire life savings to receive it. That is not humane, and the government / petitions would not have it. It's obvious you don't live in the US. Tons of people here do not get even life-saving medicines because they can't afford it. They surely won't get a pill to help them live longer when it is cheaper to just let them die normally.
