A baby has been born from an embryo frozen 20 years ago scientists have announced.
The baby boy was born to a 42-year-old mother after having been donated by a couple 20 years ago, its the longest time an embryo has been frozen before being used successfully.
Preserving embryos by freezing has become commonplace in fertility treatment to allow women to attempt multiple cycles without repeatedly creating new embryos.

They are frozen in liquid nitrogen, there is no freezer burn there. I know, I was kidding.

Forvige me if I'm misunderstanding you questionmark.. But the pro-life thing? Is that coming from the coin of if it is evil to play god and force a life out of existence, the other side is it is evil to play god and force life into existence? Just curious

The thing that disturbed me most is the fact that a woman can basically give birth to her own step brother/sister... That is very weird!!

Just curious The pro-lifers claim that the soul goes into the body on conception. So this person must have had a soul imprisoned --or frozen-- somewhere. Nice dillema, right?

Same here... the part that raised my eyebrow was: "In 2007 a mother froze some of her own eggs so they could be used by her then-seven-year-old daughter who was likely to be infertile because of a medical condition. If the girl used the eggs she would effectively give birth to her own half brother or sister. " Now I'm all for progress, don't have any religious sentiments preventing me from supporting it, but that my friends, is somewhat borderline incest just without sex O.o well, it's result more likely but yea, you get my thought.

"We do not want to be thinking about having 40-year-old embryos in the freezer. We would have a new generation using embryos of the older generation." ok, strange, yes, but i can't figure out why this would be a real problem.

how is that incest? it's called surogacy... there is no incestual intercourse between the family. the daughter is just carrying the embryo not concieving the baby.... the dna and everything is already formed in place within the embryo, so there is no way of inbreeding.

You do have a good point. I don't condemn the idea. If anything, it's the greatest gift a mother can do for her daughter. It's just a bit odd sounding nonetheless to say you are a surogate mother for your half sibling.

All the previous posts have a good point. But, at what point do we stop playing God? I agree the pro-lifers should not have anything to b**** about, however, the belief that a human soul is placed in the embryo at the time of conception is preposterous. I am not very religious, but simple morality should prevail here. Only the ones who donated their eggs or embryos should and would have exclusive access to them. Anything else would raise too many questions as to how far we are willing to go in the name of science.
