there are parents completely naive to gave their child a name like that Children get the last name of their parents, no? If that is the parents' last name, it's hardly a conscious decision to make it hard for their kid to fill in forms.

Children get the last name of their parents, no? If that is the parents' last name, it's hardly a conscious decision to make it hard for their kid to fill in forms. Not in all cultures. Some Indian cultures combine a bunch of family names for a child to make one long last name. I worked with a Sikh guy whose first and last names combined had 57 letters. He'd never tell us his full name... we just called him PJ. He was hilarious. I often wonder what he's up to today.

Ottovordemgentschenfelde Otto (Ahtoe) -- vordem (short e) -- gent (hard g, short e, barely pronounce the t) -- shen (short e) -- feld (short e) uh That's my pronounciation from having taken 4 yrs of german quite a few years ago.
