The recording details Russia's attempt to land a spacecraft on the moon hours before Apollo 11.
In July 1969 the Soviet lunar spacecraft Luna 15 was in orbit around the moon ready to land on the surface, collect samples of lunar rocks and send them back to Earth before the Apollo astronauts arrived. Things didn't go according to plan however, the lander descended towards the lunar surface but crashed a short time later.
In July 1969, the telescopes at the Jodrell Bank Observatory, in Cheshire, were tracking the Americans' Eagle Lander carrying astronauts towards the moon's surface.

The Russian unmanned programme had its set backs, as did the US, but that hardly made the their programme "crazy". The Soviets had achieved many firsts along the way. They hardly rushed, in fact their lack of haste (due to many internal problems far too long and involved and probably off topic to go into here) contributed to them not really challenging Apollo. It wasn't suppressed. It is mentioned in every decent book on spaceflight and was covered by the news media at the time. Or maybe it wasn't suppressed and you just haven't heard about it before. Not true. They did have plans to place a C... [More]

I dont understand why youre asking this. Can you explain? i was not questioning bravie, but the statement i responded to was the russians may have been willing to send a manned ship to the moon on a one way trip.

Wow thanks for the info ..I always thought the Soviet luna robot got there a little after Apollo 11 but had failed attempting landing and its quite true this has been known from when it happened ..if I recall in an unprecedented act of diplomacy during the cold war the Soviets shared data with the US as Luna's presence was a possible unintended hindrance to the Apollo 11 procedure (correct me if thats wrong please Waspie)

COULD THIS ARTICLE BE FAKE BECAUSE PEOPLE THINK THE MOON LANDING IS FAKE SO MAYBE NASA CAME OUT WITH THIS STORY BECAUSE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HEAR OF IT I really don't care if it's the first time you've heard of it. I'd heard of it before some time ago, but even if I hadn't, so what? Also: Caps are bad.

COULD THIS ARTICLE BE FAKE BECAUSE PEOPLE THINK THE MOON LANDING IS FAKE SO MAYBE NASA CAME OUT WITH THIS STORY BECAUSE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HEAR OF IT A couple of things to think about here KENITO: Firstly, this is not the place for conspiracy theories... that would be the conspiracy forum (the clue is in the name0. Please read this pinned topic before posting on this subject again: Moon Landing / Mars Conspiracies Please read before posting. Secondly, as ShadowSot says, all caps are bad. More importantly they are against the rules of this site. As you are fairly new here I suggest that y... [More]

i was not questioning bravie, but the statement i responded to was the russians may have been willing to send a manned ship to the moon on a one way trip. As the Soviets never had any such plans then your question is pointless. and its quite true this has been known from when it happened ..if I recall in an unprecedented act of diplomacy during the cold war the Soviets shared data with the US as Luna's presence was a possible unintended hindrance to the Apollo 11 procedure (correct me if thats wrong please Waspie) That is correct.

Does this end the "fake moon landing" debate? Or are the recordings fake as well? Personally I think the moon landings did happen. i was thinking along these lines as well.
