Archaeologists have unearthed two-thousand year old footprints made by a Roman child.
The footprints were found during an excavation of a Roman settlement in North Yorkshire. "I'm not aware of many other footprints being found, everybody was quite amazed by it," says archaeologist Helen Maclean.
Photographs show a right footprint clearly visible in soft ground followed by two left prints - suggesting that the boy or girl who made them was hopping or skipping.

Typical... The Highways Agency released photographs and drawings of an industrial complex found on the site with a water powered flour mill used to grind grain and produce food for the nearby Roman garrison.Archaeologists were unable to preserve the footprints and the photographs are the only evidence that remains of the child's brief skip through the Yorkshire mud. I wonder how many other interesting ancient sites have been destroyed in the name of progress....? They should have some sort of archealogical forensic team that can carefully remove huge chunks of these sites of interest for futur... [More]

Ooops... meant the Bini systems.. of creating instant housing in situ... to protect all these artifacts... sites.. http://www.binisystems.com/ Efficient and cost effective.. as well as solid... They needn't spoil the look of the enviroment as it can easily be incorporated into the environment.. grow grass over them so that they look like little hills. Are flexible in size and style.. can be erected in an hour...

I wonder how many other interesting ancient sites have been destroyed in the name of progress....? That's a good question. I don't think I want to know the answer though. I suspect it's more often than I imagine it.

they're foot prints, kids play everywhere. how is this making the news? Archaeologists couldn't find anything else worth talking about?

they're foot prints, kids play everywhere. how is this making the news? OK, so how many examples of kids footprints, preserved from several hundred/thousand years ago can you cite as examples? It's making news because some people feel heritage is important That's a good question. I don't think I want to know the answer though. I suspect it's more often than I imagine it. I often wonder about it, always makes me sad how much is lost that we will never get to marvel over

Captivating. Like a window through time.

The dig was close to an imperial fort which served as a frontier outpost for the famous Ninth Legion which took part in the Roman invasion of Britain in AD43.The Highways Agency released photographs and drawings of an industrial complex found on the site with a water powered flour mill used to grind grain and produce food for the nearby Roman garrison. The site was excavated as part of a £318m Highways Agency scheme to upgrade part of the A1 to a three-lane motorway.

They were that old and no one could preserve them? But yet let Big Foot take a step in mud, snow, even dry dirt and we got a mold made of it. Come on how cold someone with enough knowledge in finding these and being able to tell how old they were not be able to get more than a photograph? It's called PLASTER and it's cheap carry it with you!
