An excavation in the garden of a British pub hopes to uncover the remains of a famous elephant.
The story of the Tregaron Elephant has been a part of local folklore for years and now archaeologists are hoping to find clues leading to its final resting place. The story goes that the elephant was part of a travelling show called Batty's Travelling Menageries and died in 1848 after drinking contaminated water.
Archaeologists are to dig up the garden of a Ceredigion pub in the search for a legendary Victorian circus elephant. The Tregaron Elephant has long had its place in local folklore - a beast that died while on tour rumoured to be buried behind the town's Talbot Hotel.
