A staggering eight million mummified dogs have been unearthed beneath the Egyptian desert.
The dogs were found packed in to a labyrinth of tunnels, some were laid to rest after they had died while others are thought to have been sacrificed to the gods when merely a few hours old. The catacombs were found about 12ft underground and consist of a long central corridor with numerous smaller passages that branch off from it.
A labyrinth of sacred tunnels packed with the mummified remains of millions of dogs has been excavated under the Egyptian desert. The catacombs are estimated to contain the remains up to eight million dogs, many of which would have been offered to the gods when they were just hours old.

If they where mummified it means they liked dogs not disliked them. I was under the impression the whole reason they used mummification was to help allow the continuation of their existence in the afterlife? If they didn't like dogs they would of just burned them. The idea of 8 million is staggering though. Would make a great horror movie

Fascinating and strange news. Surely there must be 8 million cats closeby waiting to be discovered? Plenty of secrets yet to be uncovered!

Am wondering if Egyptians let their dogs defecate everywhere like us more civilised folks?

If you read the article it explains what they think happened. The dogs were raised to be sacrificed to act as intermediaries to Anubis, god of the dead. Sacrificing was big back in the day, lambs for christians, dogs for egyptians, humans for the Aztecs to mention a few.

Maybe they kept dogs as pets and used a single spot for their burial. They may of used dogs to help with secruity as well, and possibly to help with work. It is a bit weird considering there aren't many dogs in hieroglyphs. There have been reports of dogs being used in wars in other parts of the world maybe the egyptians used them in wars too.
