GM cows produce human milk

In a bid to make cow's milk more nutritious scientists have created cattle that produce human milk.
Human genes have been introduced in to 300 cows so that their milk shares many of the same properties as human breast milk. The work promises to provide a substitute to actual breast milk for babies that will also help to boost their immune system.
The work is likely to inflame opposition to GM foods. Critics of the technology and animal welfare groups reacted angrily to the research, questioning the safety of milk from genetically modified animals and its effect on the cattle's health.

Actually...if you think about it, human milk from cows may actually be healthier than human milk from women. Cows aren't exposed to all the drugs most people take at some point for various reasons, they're not exposed to processed food chemicals, or god knows what else we put in our foods. Flipside though, they're exposed to maybe pesticides, fertilizers, disease carrying insects, and the elements? The hormone fed cows on the other hand would probably be bad for producing any kind of milk, etc.

yeah, im not sure this would be very useful except for women who dont have time to breast-feed. But if you're going to buy something, there's plenty of formulas already out there. Genetic engineering really takes you down a weird path though

Have to agree with previous posters. I see no benefit to this, and it doesn't pass the ICK factor. Why bother?

If you drink milk in the USA make sure it i... [More]

Well actually a company in england was harvesting human milk from humans to make ice cream made for human breast milk. They got shut down once the news started to spread. Of course they were paying the mothers. They had to screen the milk and make sure the mothers weren't doing cocaine and had hepitis and ****. It just caused more problems. The authorities didn't want another humans boldily fluid to be ingested as it would pass viruses. There was also concern about that milk not going to the child. Also if the milk isen't suitable for us than it surely shouldn't be fed to the mothers child. In... [More]

I wonder what the GM udders look like... OK...so...GM stuff I am ambivalent about thus far. It's no different than half the stuff we cross-breed and selectively breed any way. Personally, I don't believe they are making these cows any more human than they are now, they are just manipulating the production of the milk. Human breast milk tastes very similar to cows milk, if processed the same way. Whole cow milk, un-pasteurized and still warm, is as gross as human breast milk you may have tasted if you partner was breast feeding.
