Body of Pope John Paul II exhumed

I see that a lot of people do not understand the exhuming of his body, so I want to comment about it briefly. In both the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church this is an ancient tradition. It goes back to the earliest days of the church. Man has no power to make someone a saint or a sinner. Not all Christians believe the body contains remnants of "holiness." So If people are fooled by this nonsense that John Paul though a decent person in life, is a saint, they can go ahead and fool themselves into thinking it. I for one do not believe in these silly rituals and find them rather ridiculous though interesting and intriguing. How people can fool themselves and veer away from Biblical teachings. I find this to be utter nonsense.

The entrenchment in beliefs that serve no purpose and endless dogma never cease to amaze me. But, to each his own.

I'm not questioning the honoring thing, I totally get that part... Just didn't understand the moving the corpse around thing. So it's a normal part of procedure that when someone is decided upon to be sainted, their body gets moved to a better spot? And blech to Veledran... Is it normal to chop up saints?? Hmmmmm interesting. Pope Pius, who was fully aware of and agreed with Nazi atrocities, is being considered for sainthood, if in fact he hasn't already been sainted. And now Pope John Paul, who was fully aware of and stayed mum about how sexually abusive priests were to be handled, is being considered for sainthood. Oh, and did I forget to mention the interview with a particular cardinal who had the audacity to say, prior to Pope Benedict's election, "The Catholic Church is not ready to have a black pope". My apologies, but remind me again why he's on his way to Sainthood? I don't know much about religion and I will be the first to tell you that, but I thought this old fellow did quite a few things during his time as Pope that would put him out of the running to be a "Saint"? Or perhaps I'm thinking of one of the other Pope's in history.

I'm not Catholic and Pope John Paul II and I definitely wouldn't have agreed on some major issues. That being said his impact on this world was significant, particularly in the political arena. The pope was not exhumed so as "to know he was a saint".The reason his coffin was dug up and moved, was so that it could be viewed by the public -- an expected million people -- before being reburied in a more "honourable" location; "... a new crypt under an altar in a side chapel near Michelangelo's statue of the Pieta."
