A 120-million-year old ichthyosaur jawbone shows signs of attack by a member of the same species.
The wounds indicate that the dolphin-like creatures battled it out in the prehistoric seas, most likely over food, territory or a mate. Evidence of healing suggests the creature actually survived the fight for some time before it died.
Relics of an epic battle between the waves have been found on the jawbone of a 120million-year-old sea monster. The bite wounds inflicted on the ichthyosaur were probably made by a member of the same species, scientists believe.
