A giant radio telescope has started listening for signs of ET on 86 earth-like extrasolar planets.
The 86 planets were picked from a list of over 1,200 possibilities picked up by NASA's Kepler telescope. "It's not absolutely certain that all of these stars have habitable planetary systems, but they're very good places to look for ET," says Berkeley student Andrew Siemion.
A massive radio telescope in rural West Virginia has begun listening for signs of alien life on 86 possible Earth-like planets, US astronomers said Friday.

I think what stephen hawking said about not trying to contact aliens makes sense but all in all this is great we humans should show we could stand up to being far advanced too lol I see your point. We might contact Klingons and they would invade earth. LOL

It's a bit of a worrisome thought, when you really think about it. Don't get me wrong, I'm quite excited about this, but it gives me a bit of an apprehensive feeling as well. The excitement comes from, well, contact with interstellar intelligence, of course But the apprehension comes in when you consider this...The various intelligent life forms out there could see our "contact" as an inconvenience (seems unlikely, but who knows what they are thinking, right?) and they could "send out the troops" to take care of this minor annoyance. I don't know, anything's possible, really. C:
