Woman sensitive to electronics after chemo

Woman lives extremely isolated life after chemotherapy made her super sensitive to electronic gadgets.
Imagine having to go from using electronic gadgets (and appliances) in your daily life to having nothing, not even a light bulb. This is what one woman in Nottinghamshire dealt with after undergoing chemotherapy for her bowel cancer. The 55 year old woman is now forced to live a primitive lifestyle to avoid the constant pain she experiences when near electromagnetic fields.
Janice Tunnicliffe won't use an electric kettle, keeps her washing machine in a concrete outhouse and spends every night playing board games by candlelight with her husband. But it is not because the mother of two is trying to cut down on her electricity bills - she is in fact allergic to modern technology. She says she has a rare condition called electrosensitivity (ES) that means she can't be near any man-made electromagnetic fields.

I wonder if they could build something like a Faraday cage around her house?... wouldn't help her, but the neighbors might be able to use wireless Internet then... Not a bad idea, really.

I'd hate to have her condition. No video games, no computers, no phones....the list goes on.

Let me get this straight, the neighbours can't have WiFi, but radiowaves can pass straight through the house without problems? So are there just certain frequencies that seem to hurt her, or is it the whole band? Because this seems really strange. How about cellphone signals?

I feel bad for her, but worse for her kids and husband! Like UFO Monster said, no video games,computers... nothing... crappy way for kids to live. I made do with books and libraries for a long time. I'm actually sort of curious about this. There doesn't seem to be much way to measure the effect, these people live in urban areas where there's a large amount of background em fields, and most of the time you hear about this really rare problem they are usually getting their neighbors to adjust to their lifestyle, like the fellow who sued his neighbor for getting wifi. Further reading seems to sug... [More]

I feel bad for her, but worse for her kids and husband! Like UFO Monster said, no video games,computers... nothing... crappy way for kids to live. As some Grandfathers used to say: "When I was a kid we didn't have any of your newfangled video games and TV sets. We went outside and threw rocks at each other for fun, and walked back and forth to school uphill both ways!" I am certain the kids can get by with books. (What's wrong with books?) If anything it may be better for them intellectually, and humans don't need video games and computers. We just want them.

I have sympathy for her and her affliction, however I'm not real sure why her neighbors can't have wi-fi. It's not their fault that she has this sensitivity and it's not up to everyone else to change their lifestyles to accomodate her. I mean if they're doing it out of the kindness of their hearts, then that's great. But, if she were my neighbor she'd have to figure out a way to modify her home to block it out. Sorry but that's damn selfish as a way to think. She suffer and would have to continue tu suffer just to fuffil our greed? We should help her, not make her suffer more juste because peo... [More]

We don't need our internets and our Xboxs, like you said we just... [More]
