Bid launched to build a human brain

The aptly dubbed "Team Frankenstein" hope to construct a computer model of the human brain.
Currently in talks with the EU for a $1 billion grant, the team believes that if they succeed the project could lead to cures to a number of diseases including Parkison's. "This is one of the three grand challenges for humanity. We need to understand earth, space and the brain. We need to understand what makes us human," says neuroscientist Henry Markram.
A team of scientists has assembled in Switzerland and Germany to pursue a unique goal - the building of a computer model of a human brain. Called the Human Brain Project - but perhaps inevitably dubbed 'Team Frankenstein' in the media - it is in discussion with the EU for a £1billion grant.

Almost impossible, maybe what they really need to create is a brain analyzer but they should be the first one to test it.

How can they create a "Brain" without the five senses that connect the brain to reality? The Sci Fi possibilities of this are of course endless. Here's one classic Dr. Who story that's relevant. The Brain of Morbius

Brain emulation is already in a VERY progressive stage... by being able to build and make a direct copy of a brain (which has already been done with half a mouse brain) we can in theory make direct digital copies of an individual, providing you accept that our characters are essentially made up of sequences of neurons, synapses, ect.. We are already on track by 2013 to achieve the computing power sufficient enough for FULL human brain simulation, followed by 2025 when full brain uploading to a computer hard drive can take place effectively replicating the human consciousness.. mind uploading i... [This is not so stupid... I suggest you research heavily before you make such sweeping statements and show your self up.. Remember.. A full brain map would occupy less than 2 x 1016 bytes (20000 Tb) and would store the addresses of the connected neurons, the synapse type and the synapse "weight" for each of the brains'

People have been toying around with this idea for about as long as we have had computers. AI seems like rather a simple process when you consider the idea but it is complicated. What this Team Frankenstein is attempting is even more complex because they are not just looking to create an intelligent program that acts like a human mind they are going to replicate the process in full with a computer. I'm not sure how thats going to work out for them but good luck. Putting together an intelligent program is not far off the map. In a few years your going to have a twin that lives in your smart phon... [More]

But after 12 years I am not expecting them to declare they have created a brain. Not in 12 years time, or not anymore. A human brain will think and decide with feelings.

Maybe the Singularity is closer than we think. Dorothy: Well, if you haven't got a brain, how can you talk? Scarecrow: I don't know.
