3,000mph hypersonic plane unveiled

Plans have been unveiled for a hypersonic plane capable of flying from London to Tokyo in 2 hours.
The plane would feature three sets of engine able to propel commercial flight passangers at over 3,000mph. Hailed as the successor to Concorde the plane would use a hydrogen and oxygen fuel mix. The snag however, is that this remarkable feat of engineering won't be available for another 40 years.
It will take only two hours to fly from London to Tokyo, be virtually pollution free, and promises to be no louder than today’s modern planes. There’s only one catch for prospective commuters – it will be another 40 years before commercial flights take place.

I was just because they came to the end of their designed life. The Concorde fleet may have been around for a while, but due to constant servicing and modification programs they were actually pretty young airplanes in terms of flying hours and fatigue life (the rate at which the structural materials age and weaken). They could still have carried on for many years, remember the paris crash was the only in service total loss of the type, a far better record than almost any other aircraft type. The real reason for withdrawing them was business based, there wasn't the corporate will to keep spendi... [More]

Nice. I have plans for an anti-gravity engine coil, the only problem is that this remarkable feat of engineering won't be available for another 200 years.

Ridiculous. People should be concerned with more important matters than wasting money on 'how fast I can get from A to B to enjoy my little vacation' In 50 years it will be the weather that people will be focuseed on, not some ridiculous aeroplane, you watch.

Are we still going to be here in 40 years?

I think every body is just B.S ing . and they probably already have things like this made.if you can tell somebody how something works and how to make it then why not make it and show someone instead of running your mouth

Your right i think they should put more focus on building faster space shuttles instead of planes even though the space shuttle program will be ending but still more money should be put in space study

There may come a time quite soon when people will have to start venturing away from the Earth so, yes, you're right. I think as time goes by the space programme may start realising this. Thanks.

Well, a lot can happen in 40 years. bull**** could be completely obsolete. And we've got the singularity coming up in just 30years. Best wishes to those who will still be here!!!!
