Funding cuts - what's next for SETI ?

With funding cuts and the Allen Telescope Array effectively shut down, what happens now for SETI ?
The search for intelligent alien life in the universe is currently on the backburner, with a lack of funding SETI is tasked with finding private sponsors to help it get back in business with an attempt to raise the $5 million needed to get the Allan Array running again.
In a country where some corporations do not pay taxes, millionaires get farm subsidies and a presidential candidate can run up a half-million-dollar tab at Tiffany's, we're deferring an attempt to answer one of our most enduring (and least inexpensive to answer) questions: Are we alone in the universe?

Wonder if there's a sinister hidden hand controlling the funding from behind the scenes of SETI...

It's not like it really matters, go outside, look up. On any given night you can see all kinds of weird crap flying around. Obviously whatever is up there is more inclined to observe us, than contact us anyway. Calculations already dictate that we're not alone, the rest is just a waiting game until we make contact, or they do.

I'll buy the Allen Array for $5 and continue the research gratis.

Some private investor will probably buy it - Branson will found Virgin Galactic Talk and charge ET to call us. Or they could get the 'free evening and weekend ET calls'.

Wonder if there's a sinister hidden hand controlling the funding from behind the scenes of SETI... Could be that they were getting to close to discovering something that some did not want to be discovered.

Who's to say we haven't found what we were looking for already? making funding kinda pointless, since they would have soooooo much to work on from one discovery alone, they would need funding for that, more importantly! Well, we can always hope.

Funding cut to the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence and the death of curiosity In cutting funding for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, we've shown that we're surprisingly unwilling to put our money where our imaginations want to roam. http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-cokinos-seti-20110618,0,1241870.story That SUCKS!!

Could be that they were getting to close to discovering something that some did not want to be discovered. I was thinking someone up there doesn't want to be discovered...
