Scientists in Korea have created a glowing dog using a cloning technique that could help cure diseases.
The dog is said to glow fluorescent green when doxycycline antibiotics are added to its food. It is hoped that the research will lead to treatments for diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
"The creation of Tegon opens new horizons since the gene injected to make the dog glow can be substituted with genes that trigger fatal human diseases," the news agency quoted lead researcher Lee Byeong-chun as saying.

Why don't people read? It clearly states the purpose of the research; ''Scientists in Korea have created a glowing dog using a cloning technique that could help cure diseases. Good post Dutchman. People need to either read or research the topic a little more if they don't know what the rationale of the article is. While this article is a new one, the concept isn't. We have been using enzymes like luciferase and proteins like GFP (Green fluorescent protein) to utilize the phenomenon of bioluminesence for years and it has contributed literally a ton towards the field of biology and understanding diseases. You can use this concept to make markers and special reporter genes that tell the researcher whether something is being expressed or not, which is great in disease r... [More]

Wait...Korean scientists created the glowing dogs? Now everything makes sense. By glowing, it would be more difficult for the dogs to get away when the scientists have a case of the munchies.

The world is falling apart and we spend time creating a glowing dog, LOL. Okay, I am officially in the Twilight Zone, LOL. Clearly you didn't read thoroughly, there's more to it than the dog's glowing? This is about curing diseases as stated... it just so happens you will glow fluorescent green under an ultraviolet light when the medication is taken. The world is falling apart, and scientists are a big factor to why these problems are being cleansed. I wouldn't underestimate their accomplishments, personally. In a few months there should be an article about glowing scientists. :-)) ..or an art... [More]

perfect timing again.. "The Glowing Race." The researchers, who completed a two-year test, said the ability to glow can be turned on or off by adding a drug to the dog's food. there's a space-based surveillance system using a similar technique who's curious how the catalyst is being applied?

WWSS!! (what would Sheldon say?) I guess I am the only Big Bang fan here because my first thought was of Sheldon's glow-in-the dark fish for a night lite! As to the article...I am still leery of humans playing with stuff like this, but let's hope that it can benefit people suffering from these diseases.
