A US space executive is concerned that China will stake a claim on the moon before the US does.
In the 60s the US was in a race with the Soviets to put a man in space; today, one billionaire "space executive" is concerned that China will stake a claim on the moon before the United States is able to do so. The focus of his concern is that once Chinese astronauts and scientists make a clear investigation of the moon, they will withdraw from the Outer Space Treaty of 1967 and claim possession of the moon with the intention of collecting payment from others who wish to follow in their footsteps.
Is China on course to surpass the United States as the world's space superpower and stake a claim on the moon in the next 15 years? Billionaire space executive Robert Bigelow is deeply worried about that scenario — and he says Americans need a "kick in the ass" to respond to the challenge.
