Two Korean scientists have envisaged a future where your phone can diagnose what illness you have.
Hyun Gyu Park and Byoung Yeon Won at the Korean Advanced Institute for Science and Technology are working on a way to analyse your own spit, blood or urine via a smartphone to self-diagnose ailments like flu or food poisoning. "Since these touchscreens can detect very small capacitance changes we thought they could serve as highly sensitive detection platforms for disease biomarkers," said Park.
Many believe that in the future collecting samples of saliva, urine or blood could be performed using a cheap, USB-stick-sized throwaway device called a lab-on-a-chip.
