A two-seater flying automobile that can fly at speeds of up to 60mph is now on sale for over $1.5M.
What makes the Aerocar particularly unusual is that it is over 60 years old, the vehicle was originally designed in the 1940s. Developed by Moulton 'Molt' Taylor, the flying car embarked on its maiden voyage out of Longview, Washington in 1949. Speaking of the ease by which the vehicle could be converted from a road car to a plane Taylor noted that "the changeover from plane to auto can be made by a women in a fur coat and high heels."
The first three models were sold for a hefty $25,000 (£15,800) each with a plan for mass production. But the firm struggled to get the 500 orders needed to make the car marketable. Mr Taylor had designed the Aerocar to be able to convert from car to plane in less than 10 minutes.

@Behavior???: This guy has wings, her car doesn't need them to fly. Just like Boba Fett doesn't need weapons to kill someone.

I rather like this instead: http://martinjetpack.com/video-gallery.aspx That looks neat doesn't it, pity it was just cgi. I think the prob with that will be the amount of fuel it will go thru, making for a short flying time Id imagine..

I went back and looked at the tech page and seen this: Fuel Capacity 5 US gallons (as required by FAA Part 103,Ultralight Regulations) Fuel burn 10.0 gph So thirty min. tops. But I see larger fuel tanks in the future.

The car was built quite a long time ago. Good luck to the person who intends to fly it. I suggest you don't do it on a cliff. 30 minutes? We're going to be able to DOUBLE that in the near future, I'm sure.
