Shouryya Ray has become the first person to solve a problem posed by Newton over 300 years ago.
The German teenager succeeded in working out the exact path of a projectile under gravity and subject to air resistance, a problem that has baffled mathematicians for centuries. Shouryya received a research award and has been branded a "genius" by members of the media following his solution to the puzzle which he came up with as part of a school project.
"When it was explained to us that the problems had no solutions, I thought to myself, 'well, there's no harm in trying,'" he said.
Shouryya Ray is the first person to work out how to calculate exactly the path of a projectile under gravity and subject to air resistance, The (London) Sunday Times reported.
