Did a massive impact explosion wipe out humans in North America and initiate a new Ice age ?
It's a theory that has been discussed by scientists for several years now. The period of cooling that began approximately 12,900 years ago and lasting 1,300 years has been well documented however to date the specific cause for this miniature Ice age has remained a mystery. Could a meteor or comet impact have been to blame ?
In 2007 Dr Richard Firestone and his team discovered metal spherules and other particles dating back 12,900 years that are believed to have been the result of a meteor or comet exploding in the atmosphere. "This independent study lends greater credibility to the claim that a major impact event happened at the Younger Dryas Boundary 12,900 years ago," said Dr Albert Goodyear, co-author of the latest study on the topic.[!gad]It's a theory that has been discussed by scientists for several years now. Among the sites examined was the Topper, one of the most pristine sites in the United States for research on Clovis, one of the earliest ancient peoples.
