A woman whose heart stopped for a full 45 minutes stunned doctors by going on to make a full recovery.
Terrified relatives phoned an ambulance after 63-year-old Carol Brothers collapsed from a heart attack outside her home last month. Paramedics soon arrived on the scene and worked on resuscitating her for 45 minutes before finally managing to restart her heart. Despite this however the outlook was grim, doctors told her family to expect the worst and for days she exhibited minimal brain activity while in a critical condition.
Just as the decision was taken to withdraw medical support, Carol inexplicably opened her eyes. She is now back home and recovering well from her ordeal. "It was a good 10 days later, coming round in hospital," she said. "I was worrying because all the staff were saying 'how's our miracle girl?' and 'how's our wonder girl?' And it was really beginning to annoy me because nobody would tell me anything."[!gad]Terrified relatives phoned an ambulance after 63-year-old Carol Brothers collapsed from a heart attack outside her home last month.
