Ouija boards proving popular this Christmas

Sales of the century-old parlour game are through the roof thanks to the release of the movie 'Ouija'.
It's easy to forget that the Ouija board, a device commonly associated with hauntings and spirit communication, is actually classed as a children's toy in most shops.

A staple of horror movies, paranormal investigations and mediumship sessions for over a century, the board is normally operated by having participants place a finger on a planchette which then moves between the printed letters and words to spell out a message from beyond the grave.

Even when it was originally introduced to the commercial market by American lawyer and inventor Elijah Bond back in 1890 the Ouija board was presented as nothing more than a toy. It wasn't until the board was used by spiritualist Pearl Curran during World War I that it started to gain a reputation for being something a little more than a simple plaything.
Despite its association with the supernatural however sales of the Ouija board remain strong.

This year the Halloween movie 'Ouija' enjoyed unexpected success among moviegoers and has since brought about a whole new spate of purchases intended as gifts for the holiday season.

A glow-in-the-dark version for sale online is even believed to be one of this year's biggest sellers.

I had bought a ouiji board at a garage sale at one point for like 1.50 never used it. Probably for the better since they probably used it and I've also heard you're supposed to burn them after use or something? So...good thing I never used it XD I thin I just bought it to say I had one.

Psychodrama people, look it up! Also, "real" is real, a relative reality is personal and not real in to the senses of anyone else, so arguing for it is ambiguous. There is a $1,000,000 prize up for grabs by the James Randi Foundation if you actually get your board to give you "real" information. You should define your view of reality as shared reality.

This is very simple. If you think you are going to contact the spirits of the dead using some dime store bought piece of card board......then please give me your address so I can sell you some land on the moon. Dumbasses.

That's called table turning and I've done it. It's quite weird and freaked us out. . I remember a group of us attempted this as a side activity in a room high up in the USS Hornet, during a midnight 'investigation' of the vessel, as part of a paranormal conference aboard. I remember it being so fun and funny because there was a facilitator who was trying so hard to get us to be in the mood to make it work, but it just wasn't happening. We were all in the mood enough it seemed, but nothing. It was such a good mood in the room, though. The absence of 'table turning' just made it more funny to us... [More]

If you think you are going to contact the spirits of the dead using some dime store bought piece of card board......then please give me your address so I can sell you some land on the moon. Dumbasses. Now do a tiny bit of research into the history of all attempted 'spirit' contact throughout the history of mankind, and begin to realize and understand that the physical materials that make up a catalyst, such as a Ouija board, really don't really even factor into the honing of intent and mindset. They're just symbolic tools to get you in the dead set state of mind. You could... [More]

That's called table turning and I've done it. It's quite weird and freaked us out. It was on an occasion where someone at a get together had read about these supposed paranormal experiments. What we also did was have 4 of us lift a person off a chair with little or no effort by using nothing more than 2 fingers each. Each of us put a finger under one of four places - the armpits and behind the knees - and were able to lift the person clean from the chair with hardly any effort. At least that's what I think happened. I must do some more reading into these phenomena. It was quite a long time ago... [More]

So...good thing I never used it XD I thin I just bought it to say I had one. That's would be one expensive board game. Imagine if you had to burn Monopoly at the end, though sometimes I wish I could. People who believe the board game is able to contact their dead uncle don't recommend burning it. And I don't as it's a waste of a perfectly good game.

To me there isn't anything paranormal about the cardboard and pieces themselves. Much like a deck of tarot cards, it's just paper with ink. What makes it different is the intent you bring to it. I personally use tarot as a meditation device to focus my thoughts and reflect on choices I need to make in life, as well as my relationship(s) with the world. I have never thought there was anything supernatural about the deck of cards itself. They're simply a tool to allow my mind to focus on certain aspects of life and my place in things. With Ouija it's also about intent, and that's what gets peopl... [More]

Well....I bought my cousin a Ouija Board for Christmas...and Christmas is over...and he is still alive... Stupid ass people. If you think a demon is going to appear because you went out and spent 14.99 on some Chinese made cardboard waste...then you fail. Game Over.
