A much loved grandmother wanted the boards to be given out so that she could 'stay in touch' with her relatives.
A staple of horror movies, paranormal investigations and mediumship sessions, the Ouija board is typically operated by having participants place a finger on a planchette which then moves between the printed letters and words to spell out a message from beyond the grave.
While many dismiss them as supernatural claptrap, others remain convinced that they are the real deal - even warning people against their use in fear of summoning something 'unnatural'.
In this particular case, however, a cheeky grandmother who had died of cancer at the age of 81 decided to use the infamous boards as a tongue-in-cheek gag.
Before she died, she left instructions for Ouija boards to be handed out to the attendees of her funeral with a note which read "let's keep in touch!"
"It was hysterical, and everybody was like, of course, that's so Jodie of her," said her granddaughter Gracie. "She was hilarious. She had a great sense of humor and a huge heart."
"She loved her family. And she just took care of people around her. She was a great woman."
