Cody Townsend made headlines this week after careening down a near-vertical mountain crevice on skis.
The professional skier picked up the Best Line of the Year award for his incredible descent down a narrow crevice in the Alaska Tordrillos mountains.

Consisting of a tiny gap between two rock faces, the run was one of the most challenging and harrowing routes ever attempted.

Despite the height of the mountain the dangerous stunt saw him hurtle down the slope in less than 30 seconds.

"It's the sort of line I had been looking to ski for a long time," he said. "To do the ultimate straight line has been a goal of mine. I have been in this zone before several years ago but hadn't noticed it."

"This time when I saw it I knew it had to be done."
