Man catches huge fish off the coast of Japan

The gigantic specimen was reeled in during a fishing trip to Hokkaido, Japan's second largest island.
Caught by fisherman Hirasaka Hiroshi, the creature is believed to be a wolffish - a species that typically only grows up to around 112cm long with a maximum weight of 15kg.

This one however is estimated to be much larger, a fact that has renewed questions over the effect that the nuclear disaster at Fukushima might be having on the local marine life.
In the images uploaded on to Hiroshi's Twitter account the jubilant angler can be seen straining under the weight as he attempts to hold up his huge catch in front of the camera.

"It was worth flying to [Hokkaido] twice within three months. This guy is super cool," he wrote.

Leave the poor ugly thing alone. They will probably try and eat it.

Forced perspective. He's seems to be holding it out from his body to make it seem larger than it actually is. Yup, anglers have been doing this for years. A great trick for making your catch look bigger than it is (not that the catch isn't bigger than usual). Idk - check out the fishermans hands holding up the fish - they don't look right to me - the fingers look too big and sort of deformed. Forced perspective not only leads to a bigger fish but bigger fingers too.

The article doesn't say how big or heavy the fish in the picture actually is. The only reference to its size is a quote from Wiki which states how big they can get. Wikipedia states that adults can grow to be 112 centimeters (44.1 inches) long and weigh up to 15 kilograms (33.1 pounds).

based on the size of his fingers in the picture, I'd be surprised if that thing was much longer than 112 cm (About 44 inches or 3 foot 8 inches).

Fukushima was my first thought as well.

How they could even think the Fukushima event could have this kind of effect on organisms so soon after the event, is laughable really.

Happens around the Gulf a lot to following the oil spill. Weird fish or critter washes up and people don't know what it is, blame recent events or aliens. Every single time.
