A bizarre science experiment has shown that you don't need to actually eat garlic in order to taste it.
In a new video by the American Chemical Society as part of its ongoing 'Weird Food Tricks' series, researchers have demonstrated that it is possible to taste garlic by absorbing it through your feet.
To try this out, cut a piece of fresh garlic in half, rub it all over the bottoms of your feet and then tie plastic carrier bags around them to keep the garlic smell from filling the room.
After about an hour you will start to actually taste the garlic in your mouth.
The reason for this is not because you are smelling it in the air but because one of the molecules in garlic - Allicin - is able to penetrate through your skin and travel through your body to your mouth.
The video, which explains this peculiar effect in more detail, can be viewed below.
They injected a solution of sterile normal saline to flush the I.V.....most will describe a metallic taste in mouth.....some will even describe an odor.....but that is rare.
Back in my school days as a wrestler we were all addicted to chewing tobacco. The nicotine helped stave off hunger when it came to cutting weight. During matches we would put a pinch between our toes and catch a buzz. I wonder what would happen if I soaked my feet in bourbon.
