Elon Musk seeks to merge man with machine

The SpaceX CEO has launched Neuralink - a new company which aims to merge humans with computers.
The ambitious endeavour will seek to directly connect the human brain to a computer through something known as a "neural lace" - a technology that can be "woven" in to the brain to help enhance its functionality as well as to facilitate direct communication with nearby devices.

Brain-computer interfaces are not a new thing, however those that exist already are relatively slow and limited in what they can achieve. If Musk succeeds, it could open the door to a more seamless integration between humans and machines.
"Over time I think we will probably see a closer merger of biological intelligence and digital intelligence," he said previously. "It's mostly about the bandwidth, the speed of the connection between your brain and the digital version of yourself, particularly output."

Exactly what Neuralink's "neural lace" technology will be able to achieve remains unclear, but it seems that transhumanism - the process of enhancing humanity's capabilities through the use of science and technology - is here to stay.

If this is highly successful and with all the advances in robotics, can a flock of "Datas" be far behind.  Giving people robot bodies may even come to pass if they can download the brain's "footprint" to a next generation A!.

that would suck though if you got a virus like Trojan virus or something like that. then your screwed. You might even have to reboot yourself lol

I'm getting worried about him. He's got definite megalomaniac aspirations.

We would all sound like the Robo voice on those crap crypto pseudo science videos , jeeeeze! And the CIA could watch everybody. Don't know how I would cope with screen freeze or pop up injury claims adds.

It could be the start of the Borg collective! Image the shock and disapointment you'd feel after getting your neural lace woven into your cerebal neurologigal bits, thinking that you'll be all upgraded, cyborg compatible and the must have guy on the pub quizz team, then you end up being hacked by the collective who then control your function and send you out to round up all the human 1.0's and force them to upgrade so that they too will become the drones of the Collective!!!! It'd be enough to make you cry (if the Collective didn't have control of your brain's emotional centre), especially whe... [More]

I imagine the task of mapping an individuals neural network so that a neural lace could be matched to them would be a massive achievement would be achievment. The potential to essentially telepathically communicate would be amazing. Plus, you could probably stream Netflix! It also appears that natrual world is running a prototype program!!!http://metro.co.uk/2017/03/30/doctors-pull-four-inch-wriggling-worm-from-patients-brain-6543637/

Haha with Manfred here, deffo hijacked a time machine and is now using future tech to shape the world. (This may not be a serious post).

i could go for a robot body right now. everything hurts. more semi-serious: this does nothing to assuage my fear that transhumanism will mainly just widen the gap between the rich and the poor on a global scale

I was at a conference where one of the speakers was cyborg Neil Harbissom -https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Harbisson
