Eerie human-like robot turns out to be a fake

A video showing a life-like humanoid robot walking up a driveway has been causing quite a stir online recently.
The footage, which has managed to rack up almost 5 million views since going viral a few days ago, shows what appears to be a super-impressive prototype android walking casually around outside.

As it happens however, the video does not actually show a robot at all but a digital recreation of one rendered using Unity - a popular video game and animation engine.
It's unclear exactly who created the footage, however the android has appeared previously in a web series created by director Neill Blomkamp whose filmography also includes Chappie and District 9.

While companies like Boston Dynamics have made great strides towards the creation of genuine human-like robots, this one remains rooted firmly in the realms of science fiction... at least for now.

I am familiar with Unity... a rather impressive graphics engine. And when paired with high-end commercial graphics cards, somewhat stunning results can be presented as seen here. Having viewed many of Boston Dynamics robot vids (which are cutting edge) I could easily tell this was faked... but only because I have seen real vids of real robots... not that I'm smart or anything to know a fake. Good job. Imagine the "illusion" of video in, say, just 10-15 years from now. Won't be able to trust video on face-value at all.

It was proved to be a fake in November 2016 I believe.     (Subtle political satire)

Regardless, the people that made this need to be doing CGI for movies.  A lot of the "B" Sci-fi movies CG still looks fake.

Yeah and the Unreal engine using ray tracing is really impressive too. The upcoming Nvidia cards should hopefully spawn some real time ray traced games though I don't expect good performance.
