Man suffering from very rare condition sees 'demon' faces everywhere

This disturbing scenario is everyday life for Victor Sharrah and around 75 other people worldwide who suffer from an extremely rare condition known as demon face syndrome.

Sharrah had been 56 years old when he first realized that something was wrong.

One day he had been in his apartment when he was shocked to witness a bizarre looking demonic entity walking around, complete with pointed ears, an abnormally wide mouth and slanted eyes.

It turned out that the visitor was simply his roommate and when he later ventured outside, he quickly realized that everyone he saw - whoever they might be - exhibited the same distortions."I was really freaking out at that point. I was going to go have myself committed," he recalled.

Doctors now believe that he may have developed the condition as a consequence of hitting his head on the door of his truck, but it is possible that a bout of carbon monoxide poisoning a few months earlier might have also been responsible.

Interestingly, Sharrah only sees demonic faces when looking at people in person - the same phenomenon does not occur when looking at photographs or pictures on a TV screen.

His case is now helping medical experts to find potential ways to treat the condition.

Sharrah also hopes that the research will help others who might have been misdiagnosed.
