Photograph shows alleged 'monster' emerging from the Hudson River

Hudson River monster.
Is this a monster, or something else ? Image Credit: Facebook / Jo-Ann Martin
An image shows what appears to be some sort of serpent-like creature in New York's Hudson River.
The Loch Ness Monster might be the most famous water-dwelling monster legend, but that doesn't mean that it is the only unexplained creature rumored to lurk in a well known body of water.

Another example is Kipsy - a Nessie-like creature said to live in New York's Hudson River.

Earlier this month, Facebook user Jo-Ann Martin shared a photograph she had taken of what looks like a strange serpentine animal seemingly emerging from the waters of the river.
Although it is quite a distance away, the alleged creature is certainly intriguing and exhibits a stereotypical 'hump' as well as a tail and long neck protruding from the water.

The image was quickly picked up by local news outlets and generated a fair amount of discussion with other users speculating over whether it was a genuine creature or simply a piece of driftwood.

As things stand, no definitive explanation has been forthcoming.

What do you think the image shows ?

a branch comes from a tree, which starts small, gets bigger so it's living, hence a creature? ;-)

I have a friend who has a doctoral degree in forestry, the scientific advisor for his thesis worked for some years in the forest management and aerial photography parties, and insisted that once he had seen a yeti-like create at a very close distance, literally looked into the creature's eyes. He described that its stare was "of an absolutely intelligent creature". That happened in the end of 1980's in the Ural mountains (Sverdlovsk Oblast). He said he knows that scientifically this is impossible but still the event had happened to him for real. And not only him but a few of the other forest r... [More]

Videos and stories just like your friend's are why I believe this is something real and unknown to science, Well, I gave my leading theory that I think these creatures are real but not 'normal' animals. I think they shift in and out of our normal three-dimensional physical world. It is scientifically something new but I wouldn't call it scientifically impossible.

Log.  Trees have roots and leaves when they're not sleeping. It's a log.

I don't think it's a whale, the Hudson River is fresh water depending on the location the photo was taken!!!

Well, I have heard of sharks going way up stream in fresh water. But this is a whale (perhaps) and they breathe air like we do, with lungs, so fresh water means very little to them. I think lol

Tiger Sharks can live in both fresh or salt water, and i believe that they even have their young in fresh water. I never considered that Whales do lungs not gills, so you make a great point and I suspect your right!
