After initially dismissing her claims as mere imagination, her parents soon realized that she wasn't making things up.
Usually when a young child claims that there is a monster in their closet in the dead of night, it is fair to assume that it is little more than a case of an overactive imagination.

This was certainly the first thing that the parents of one 3-year-old girl thought when she began complaining of 'monsters' in the walls of her bedroom in Charlotte, North Carolina recently.

"We even gave her a bottle of water and said it was monster spray so that she could spray away any of the monsters at night," her mother said.

But as time went on and the young girl continued to express concern about monsters in her closet, her mother began to suspect that she might not actually be making things up.
It wasn't long before the truth became apparant - the 'monsters' that the 3-year-old had been hearing were in fact honey bees - 60,000 of them - that had set up a huge hive behind her bedroom wall.

When a beekeeper investigated the situation, he found that the hive stretched right down the wall and that it appeared to have been active for more than 8 months.

It took three separate extractions to remove the entire hive and all its occupants.

In total, around 60,000 bees and 45kg of honeycomb was removed from the house.

The bees had also managed to cause around $20,000 worth of damage to the property.

Bees can be very valuable. The value of those bees to the beekeeper may have made it an even trade at least.

I am a bit puzzled that this problem has been developing without anyone noticing that there was an increase in bee traffic around the outside of the house. Does no one go outside and actually look up from their smart phones long enough to give the property and house a look over to make sure there aren't problems developing? I mean..in the townhouse I used to live in, we made sure that we checked the soffits and roof edges frequently to make sure there were no wasp nests being built or check for other insect traffic. Bees don't just come in one day and the next day you have a bee-metropolis wit... [More]
