Mississippi alligator hunters catch 802-pound behemoth

That is one enormous alligator. Image Credit: Megan Sasser According to reports, the group - who had been hunting alligators for over a decade - came upon this monster specimen, which weighed 802 pounds and measured 14ft long, after a storm.

"At that point, we had no idea how big he was," said Sasser. "We just knew he was a good gator."

The creature was so large, in fact, that when the group finally managed to catch it, it was too large to even fit inside the boat, meaning they had to travel back to shore while towing it along beside them.It wasn't until they were able to weigh it in that its immense size became apparent.

"We were just a few pounds shy of the record weight, two inches short of the record length, and less than an inch shy of the girth measurement needed to break the state record," said Sasser.

"But we're not disappointed. It was still the catch of a lifetime."
