Viral video shows 'figures' standing on top of clouds... or does it?

Are these figures, or something else ? Image Credit: YouTube / mavi ufoalarm Reportedly captured on camera by a passenger aboard a commercial airliner, this intriguing footage appears to show human-like figures standing on top of the clouds.

The figures, which remain motionless, stand out distinctly against the rest of the cloud layer and cast their own shadows, suggesting that there is actually something physically there.

The clip quickly racked up millions of views on social media, with users speculating over what exactly the passenger had captured on camera and whether the entire thing could be a hoax.

Some offered up tongue-in-cheek interpretations including one who jokingly suggested that it was a couple of server engineers performing maintenance on "the cloud".But what exactly are these figures and how did they get on top of the clouds ?

One user was able to offer up what is most likely to be the correct explanation which is that the cloud is in fact a layer of thick fog and the 'figures' are vertical columns of steam from exhaust stacks located underneath.

From certain angles, they happen to resemble humanoid figures.
