The iconic director is returning to the genre with his first new movie about aliens in almost two decades.
Last year we reported on rumors that Spielberg was working on a new movie centered on the UFO phenomenon - a return to form for the director who became a household name thanks to movies such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

More recently, new details have emerged about the project including the writer, the actors and even its name.

Penned by David Koepp (who worked with Spielberg on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), the new movie will be entitled The Dish (although this title could change before release).

"I am so not allowed to say anything," Koepp recently told The Wrap, but went on to add - "It's great because it's an original. It was his idea, his story and working on originals is really fun."
According to reports, The Dish will begin production in February of this year with principal photography taking place in Georgia.

It will star Emily Blunt in the lead role, alongside Josh O'Connor, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, Colin Firth and Eve Hewson.

Little is known about the actual plot of the movie and while fans are hoping for something along the lines of Spielberg's classic 80s alien-themed blockbusters, right now all we can do is speculate.

The title The Dish suggests that it might feature a scientist or astronomer (played by Blunt) who receives an alien signal through the titular 'dish', but right now that's just pure guesswork.

It will certainly be interesting to see what Spielberg has come up with when the film eventually releases.

There's already a film called The Dish so they might need to rethink the title!

"Penned by David Koepp (who worked with Spielberg on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), the new movie will be entitled The Dish (although this title could change before release)." "Ehh, you got any gum?" Bold move to make that association with the new movie in one of the first promotional materials. 43% of the audience is not gonna want to hear that. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/indiana_jones_and_the_kingdom_of_the_crystal_skull

One can only assume the story involves an extraterrestrial women's prison in which Emily Blunt's character is sentenced to serve 18 months for accidentally killing an alien. The warden has a hot tub in his office; his assistant, Captain Taylor controls the prison's alien prostitutes and has a lover who is also involved in a clandestine affair with Ericka, the leader of the human prisoners, while the alien prisoners are led by Duchess. Eventually the alien prison administration pushes the prisoners too far and they drop their race-based feuding to revolt against their common enemy.

Loosely based on the Wow signal detection. Just a guess.

Since it's called "The Dish", it probably has something to do with the SETI program (perhaps the 1977 Wow! Signal, like you mentioned). "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" was amazing. It referenced the U.S.S. Cyclops and Flight 19, which are both Bermuda Triangle cases.
