The director of 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' is returning to the genre after several decades.
There are few movie directors as well known and as highly regarded as Steven Spielberg, the man who introduced the world to Indiana Jones, Jaws and Jurassic Park.

Some of his earlier blockbusters also happened to have a distinctly otherworldly vibe.

His 1977 movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, for instance, explored themes such as UFOs, alien abductions and formal contact with a benevolent extraterrestrial civilization.

This theme of aliens being friendly would be further explored in Spielberg's 1982 movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, which followed the story of a young boy who befriends an alien stranded on Earth.

For many people who grew up in the 70s and 80s, these movies hold great nostalgia even today.
Spielberg would dabble in aliens again in 2005 when he directed War of the Worlds, an adaptation of the famous 1898 novel by H.G. Wells. This time, of course, the aliens were anything but friendly - instead insisting on nothing less than the destruction of human civilization.

Then, three years later, Speilberg directed Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull which also touched upon the theme of extraterrestrial visitors.

Now, almost 20 years later, it looks like Spielberg intends to revisit the theme of aliens once more with a new movie that will reportedly be about UFOs.

While we don't currently know much more about it than that, the film will be written by David Koepp, the writer of the original Jurassic Park, so we can expect it to be in good hands.

We look forward to checking out the movie once it hits cinemas in the not-too-distant future.
