This horrifying, nightmare-fuel scenario reportedly played out at a Buddhist temple in Thailand recently.
In a scenario that can only be described as most people's worst nightmare, the 65-year-old woman - who had been presumed dead - had been taken in a coffin to Wat Rat Prakhong Tham temple on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand where she was to be cremated.
The story goes that the woman had been bedridden for two years and her health had recently rapidly deteriorated to the point where she had seemingly stopped breathing for two days.
Assuming that she had died, her brother attempted to take her to a hospital in Bangkok to donate her organs but was refused permission to do so because he didn't have a death certificate for her.
He then took her to the temple because it offered free cremations, but was again rejected.
It was reportedly while he was discussing the issue with staff that the woman started knocking on the inside of her coffin.
"I was a bit surprised, so I asked them to open the coffin, and everyone was startled," the temple's general and financial affairs manager, Pairat Soodthoop, told
The Associated Press.
"I saw her opening her eyes slightly and knocking on the side of the coffin. She must have been knocking for quite some time."
The woman has since been transferred to hospital for treatment.
In a further surprising twist, the temple has even agreed to cover her medical expenses.
