A man who ended up clinically 'dead' after falling asleep in the freezing cold was revived several hours later.
According to reports, the incident - which took place in Siberia's freezing Yakutia region last month - involved a man who had been walking home one night in the small city of Mirny.
For whatever reason, he had become so overwhelmed with fatigue that he had decided to lie down on a bench and take a nap - an ill-fated decision that almost cost him his life.
Before long, it became apparent that the man was not in a good way and an ambulance was called.
When paramedics arrived on the scene, they found little signs of life - the man's pulse and blood pressure were non-existent and it seemed, for all intents and purposes, that he was dead.
When efforts to resuscitate him failed, the medics took him to a nearby hospital where doctors attempted an unusual procedure that basically involved gradually increasing his temperature over a period of hours in an attempt to 'thaw' him back to life.
It took around four hours to warm him up and another 90 minutes or so to fully revive him.
Incredibly, the procedure had worked because, by very gradually warming him up, the team had been able to avoid causing damage to the fragile blood vessels inside his organs.
In the end, after five days recovering in hospital, he was well enough to return home.
