The 4th Psychological Operations Group (Airborne) has posted a strange new recruitment video on its Facebook page.
You might think that clandestine, mind-altering psychological warfare groups are a concept relegated to the days of the Cold War when the CIA worked on secretive psychic experiments, but in fact the practice of manipulating enemies through the use of psychological tricks is still going strong.
One group still operating in the US military is the 4th Psychological Operations Group (Airborne) - a long-running military information support operations unit based in Fort Bragg.
Its goal is to psychologically influence its opponents - whether that be enemy combatants or whole countries - to degrade morale, to persuade combatants not to fight or to inspire beneficial uprisings.
Now, in an unexpected move, the group has published a curious and somewhat disturbing new video that appears to be aimed at driving recruitment.
"There's another force applied in combat that we generally don't think of as a weapon of war," the narrator states. "That weapon is words."
"We are everywhere. Words are our weapon."
The video features a number of clips, including historical military footage, old cartoons and a montage of sequences indicating some of the activities that the group gets up to.
It serves as a chilling take on the clandestine nature of these operations and should certainly prove compelling to any young people considering joining the military.
Psychological warfare mainly attributes to the use of spies. Spies, traditionally have five classes: 1. Local Spies 2. Inward Spies 3. Converted Spies 4. Doomed Spies 5. Surviving Spies When all 5 classes are in use, it is called the, "Divine manipulation of the threads," and is the empire's most valuable faculty. This is detailed in Sun Tzu's Art of War.
