German UFO center received record number of sighting reports last year

The UFO phenomenon is not just prevalent in the US - people across Europe have also reported their own close encounters.
Known as the Central Research Network for Extraordinary Sky Phenomena (or CENAP), Germany's answer to MUFON and other UFO reporting centers has seen more than its typical share of UFO sightings over the last 12 months.

Based in a town south of Frankfurt, the organization is the first port of call for any members of the public who happen to see something unusual in the sky that they cannot explain.

According to its director Hansjurgen Kohler, the center received 1,348 sighting reports in 2025 covering not just Germany itself, but also parts of Austria and Switzerland as well.

The tally marks a consistent rise in sightings year on year since 2019.
As for the reports themselves, however, Kohler maintains that most - if not all - of the objects reported to the center over the last 12 months have conventional explanations.

Bright planets such as Venus and Jupiter are frequently mistaken for something anomalous, he argues.

Meteors burning up in the atmosphere and even the star Sirius are also common culprits.

That said, it only takes one genuinely anomalous sighting to challenge those explanations and to remind researchers that not every report can be so easily dismissed.

I know where it's not prevalent, in most countries that are considered "third world". Those folks have more direct and pressing day to day struggles to worry about and not this whole fairy tale.

Question to AI: do third-world countries have UFO sightings Answer:  Yes, UFO (Unidentified Flying Object) sightings occur globally, including in countries often referred to as "third-world," with notable examples in China, India, Chile, Zimbabwe, and across Africa and South America, demonstrating that these phenomena aren't confined to Western nations, though cultural interpretation and reporting can vary. Official bodies and cultural narratives in many developing countries document these events, showing widespread interest and reports from diverse locations.

Being the planet is round and it’s floating through space, what other rational conclusion could there ever be other than sky phenomena are observed globally? How couldn’t they be? Why would only western nations be able to study the sky? Because they’re the only ones who can afford telescopes? A tad racist there. You can see the sky from anywhere on earth. How is this some kind of revelation?  Which actually destroys the whole idea of the need for disclosure from governments concerning them being alien spacecraft, doesn’t it. With millions of amateur skywatchers across the planet (incl... [More]

As long as there have been people with eyes on the ground looking up, there have been UFOs in the sky - because there is always someone, somewhere, failing to identify what they are seeing.
