A woman from Brisbane recently woke up in the dead of night to discover that she had a rather unexpected visitor.
Anyone who is concerned about traveling to Australia due to its plentiful snakes, spiders and other creepy-crawlies might not find this story particularly reassuring.
On Monday night, Rachel Bloor had been asleep in bed with her partner in Brisbane when she awoke in the early hours to feel the peculiar sensation of something large sitting on top of her.
Half-asleep and initially believing it to be her dog, she reached out to pet the animal only to find that the creature sitting on her was actually the shape of a tree trunk.
Upon switching on the lamp, the truth of the situation revealed itself - a gigantic python had slithered in through the open window and was now coiled up right on top of her.
"I was just trying to shimmy out from under the covers," she recalled.
"In my mind, [I'm] going, 'Is this really happening? This is so bizarre'".
Fortunately, she was able to escape the snake, which turned out to be a non-venomous carpet python.
She then managed to gradually push it back through the open window.
"It was that big that even though it had been curled up on me, part of its tail was still out the shutter," she said.
"I think if you're calm, they're calm."
