Astrophysicist believes that he knows where Heaven is located

One Harvard scientist maintains that Heaven not only exists, but that he might know exactly where it can be found.
At first glance, astrophysics and religion might not seem to be compatible, but for Harvard astrophysicist Dr. Michael Guillen, the two can come together in some surprising ways.

To understand what Dr. Guillen is proposing, we must first look at the universe on a wider scale - or more specifically the speed at which the universe is expanding.

Because this expansion is thought to be accelerating, the further away from the Earth you go, the faster that expansion is occurring.

If you go far enough out - a point known as the cosmic horizon - things are receding away from us so quickly that the light from them will never reach us and we will never be able to see them.

This means that there is an absolute limit to what astronomers will ever be able to observe.
Most astronomers maintain that the objects beyond this point are not otherwise noteworthy save for the fact that we can't see them, but Dr. Guillen has an altogether different perspective on this.

He argues that here, in this region of the universe that we cannot see, there is no past, present or future - only timelessness.

"As a scientist, I understand the importance of definitions," he wrote in an opinion piece for Fox News.

"According to the Bible, the lowest level of Heaven is Earth's atmosphere. The mid-level heaven is outer space. The highest-level heaven is what we're talking about: It's where God dwells."

Dr. Guillen maintains that this region matches descriptions of Heaven in the Bible and could be inhabited by nonmaterial, timeless beings - otherwise known as the spirits of the dead.

It's certainly a unique premise, but with no way to see what's beyond the cosmic horizon, we will probably never know for sure what's really there.

I didn't say time isn't real.  I said that The Past, The Future, and The Present do not actually exist.  They are concepts in our mind based on memories of change.  The change is constant because the Space/Time Continuum is constant. The measurement of January 22nd, 2026 at 9:26 and 45 seconds AM has no consequence; it was never The Present.  In order to make it The Present...requires creating a static point. So, you created a static point that doesn't actually exist.  Because you stopped Time to create the static point of zero...i.e. January 22nd, 2026 at 9:26 and 45 seconds AM .  But T... [More]

The way I see it is time is not an illusion just because you can't freeze it in the moment or because it only moves in one direction.

I was always into Metallica, Iron Maiden, Motorhead and stuff like that, although Slayer didn't get on the playlist until recently (probably because back in the day it meant having to spend money on an album). I was watching Breaking Bad and heard Raise Hell by Mash Out Posse in the soundtrack, which uses a riff from Angel of Death. Great riff

I am not saying either that time is an illusion. I think our disagreement is probably semantic in nature.  Specifically the words past, present and future. From my perspective those words equate to something that doesn't exist. One can say...The Past does exist because of the fact of this event that occurred 65 million years ago.  But the reality is that the event is no longer occurring. (I know, I know...that is what makes it Past!) How about this...can we agree that maybe we just go with, The past are  occurrences that have already happened?  And that the future are occurrences that have... [More]

Funny that it's still in a place you can't see.

Yeah? When I cash my chips in I want "killed by death" by Motorhead played during my funeral

The past is something we remember, the future we anticipate. Einstein developed the theory of general relativity, it's held up well, especially when you consider the data bought from the event horizon telescope. From the right perspective the past and future could be viewed as taking place simultaneously, admittedly you'd have to be dangerously close to the event horizon of a black hole to witness that, but ?

It's all relative from the perspective of the veiwer, the geometry of space-time may make a result inevitable though

Mathematically both infinity and zero are difficult to work into how the universe is, perhaps it's best to accept that the universe exists within an eternity? We can marvel the riches we have, that may be the people we love or the majesty of the night sky, perhaps there are questions that can never be answered, but the fact that we can think of those questions validates our being?
