Two baffling triple deaths in a remote part of the country have left investigators scratching their heads.
According to reports, the strangeness began just over a week ago when the bodies of three people were found in a remote mountain hut near Petrohan.

Then on Sunday, the bodies of another three people - including a teenage boy - were found in a camper van in the Okolchitsa Peak area.

"This is a case without comparison in our country," said Zahari Vaskov of the national police general directorate.

The narrow time period in which the two sets of deaths occurred, coupled with the strange circumstances surrounding them, has left police investigators desperate for answers.
According to reports, the hut had been used by members of a non-governmental organization of nature-loving 'forest rangers' who were known to patrol the region and aid the authorities.

Five of the deceased were thought to have lived at the hut and CCTV footage recorded outside shows all six of them saying goodbye to each other on the morning of the killings.

Three of them later set the building on fire.

Several guns and bullets were also found in the vicinity of the bodies.

Exactly what had compelled the group to kill one another - and themselves - remains unclear.

If you plan to die, why burn the building? Why is it a priority? They most likely wanted to cover up/hide something.

I looked up some info on reddit. There's additional details going around. Supposedly, the national security showed up before police (not allowed in). One victim sent texts to family they were threatened by illegal loggers. Though personally I'm unsure what's true.

No poisoning by lead involved in Dyatlov ?

That was most likely a small avalanche. It would not need to bury them deeply to be dangerous. Even a relatively small slab can partially collapse a tent and pin or injure people inside. Add some extreme weather and poor visibility, which triggered panic and disorientation. In darkness, high wind and blowing snow, they may have believed a larger avalanche was coming. That could explain why they cut their way out quickly instead of using the entrance and moved downslope to the trees. A small slab can leave limited visible traces later, especially after weeks of wind redistribution, which is ... [More]

Unless investigators explicitly state ideological or religious motivation, it is safer to assume mundane, tragic human factors rather than something exotic.

Yes, @Hazzard that's an pretty realistic explanation. Free from any form of mystery. But, it's still a bit strange at least to me that all nine of them ended up dead. They were all young peple in his best years, and all of them were a good in the snow walking and skiing.

As for those Bulgarians, it is tragic, but I think it is an conflict between forest thieves. As far as I know, this is quite common in Eastern Europe.

It looks unlikely in hindsight because they were capable and healthy, but in real time, nature does not negotiate skill or age. It is often the small, compounding factors like darkness, wind, freezing temperatures, minor injuries, or misjudging the terrain that turn a survivable situation deadly. In fact, skilled and well trained mountaineers die all the time on mountains far less dangerous than the Ural slope that night.
