Blind and drunk man is caught after driving 150 miles on the motorway

Credit: Beejaypii / (PD) You would think that being unable to see would be a bit of a deal breaker when it comes to driving, but that didn't stop one 50-year-old man who ended up in court recently for embarking on a motorway journey of 150 miles while not only blind, but also drunk.

The bizarre incident, which occurred on June 29th, saw the man leave his home in Huddersfield and head for Scotland on the M6 after downing a copious quantity of wine.

According to reports, local police became aware of the situation after members of the public reported sightings of his vehicle swerving across the carriageway and he was subsequently pulled over.

It didn't take officers long to determine that he was totally inebriated.The most remarkable thing about the case, however, was the fact that he had managed to drive such a long distance in this state while also almost entirely unable to see.

It turned out that he was still able to see lights (barely) and had sat behind a large lorry for most of the way so that he could follow the vehicle's tail lights.

The fact that he had managed to drive so far without causing an accident was nothing short of miraculous.

He has since been sentenced to 36 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months.
