It was the summer that I turned 13. I was spending a Friday night with my cousins Brandi (12), Brittany (11), and Jennifer (10). We were at Brandi and Brittany's house, which was a trailer, in a newer trailer park in Halfmoon, New York. We were sitting on Brandi's bedroom floor, just talking nonsense, like children. It was close to maybe 8:30 PM. I got a funny feeling, but ignored it, chalking it up to nervousness. It was the first time I'd spent the night out of my hometown of Cohoes.
Maybe 5 minutes later, I glanced out the window and I was shocked. Standing there staring at us through the window was a beautiful young Native American woman in a white wedding dress. She stood there a few moments, staring, as if she knew us. Just as I was about to ask my cousin who she was, she just completely disappeared. It scared me, so I kept quiet, for my younger cousin Jennifer's sake mainly, she'd just turned 10 and I didn't want to scare her.
About 20 minutes later, the 4 of us were still sitting in a circle on Brandi's rug when I saw the same young Indian woman in the window again. This time, she glanced at my cousins, again as if she knew everyone. Then she looked at me, stared me straight in the eye and with this look as if she was going to cry, she disappeared.
At that time, my curiosity piqued, I decided to mention her. My cousin Brittany said, casually, "oh yeah, my mother and I saw her once before. She just looks at us like she knows us, then disappears. We have no clue who she is." It was never mentioned again that night. 13 years later, I'll be 26. I haven't seen this woman since, nobody has (my aunt still lives in that same trailer). I like to think that it's an ancestor, maybe my grandmother's sister.... I do have Native American blood in me, my grandmother was full-blooded Cherokee. The reason for the bridal gown, or how she knew us, I still have yet to find out.
