Shadow figure in the window

About 5-7 years ago, I had a very mind shattering experience with something that to this day I still know little about. One night, I was sleeping in my room on my recliner, which sat directly underneath my window. I awoke suddenly out of a dead sleep, only to see this stretched out figure of a man hanging inside of my window.
I quickly became paralyzed with fear as the figure seemed to float above me, making no sound and disturbing nothing but my own fragile mind. I could not make out any distinguishing features, except that he wore a very long overcoat and a brimmed hat. As he floated there, he began to raise up his arm to the right of his body. When it became fully extended, I noticed that he was holding onto what looked like a medium sized mason jar. He began to tip the jar on its side and I could see some sort of black substance pouring out of it. It didn't look like liquid, nor solid, and the way it poured out of the jar looked similar to the way dry ice falls to the ground. He poured this substance into my room for a time span of about 5 seconds, and then he simply vanished out of sight, as though he just faded into the background.

This was not the first, or last experience like this I've ever had, but certainly one of the most unforgettable. I am posting this here because I want to know if anyone has had anything remotely similar happen to them. I was entering the waning days of my teen years when this happened, and still to this day I experience things that most people would consider out of the ordinary. I appreciate any kind of feedback that you may have. Thank you sincerely.

That would be interesting to know but I suspect the answer is 'no'.

You may have been experiencing a condition loosely referred to as sleep paralysis. It's thought to occur when REM sleep is disrupted but before complete wakefulness occurs. Because one is transitioning from REM and not fully awake there is the opportunity for hallucinations. It's made more complex because the individual might also become hypervigilant due to the state of vulnerability being experienced which exacerbates the feeling or visualization of an intruder. It's thought that alien abduction stories may emerge from this state of sleep paralysis.
