I tended to be a frightened child in general growing up. I had two experiences at the age of six that aren't connected by anything other than my age and they both happened at night in my childhood home. We had moved into this home two months prior to this first incident. I woke up in the dark outside our new home (in January) in only my nightgown. I was standing about halfway between our house and the neighbors house, almost in the back yard. There was a large wooded area just behind both houses that ran all the way up the neighborhood, about one square mile. I awoke cold and staring into the woods.

Once I came to enough to realize where I was and it wasn't a dream I turned and found my way back to the front door of the house. I was, of course, very scared. The door was locked and I had to bang on the door and ring the doorbell to wake someone up. My mom finally came to the door confused as to who was banging on the door. When she saw it was me she grabbed me and asked how in the world I had gotten outside in the middle of the night and how long I had been out there. I was freezing. I couldn't answer her questions because I didn't know myself. My parents chalked it up to sleepwalking (which it may have been) but I had never sleepwalked before and have never done it since. They could never figure out why all the doors were locked while I was outside, did I lock it myself while sleepwalking? My mom said it was approximately 5 a.m. when she was awoken by my banging on the door.
The second thing that happened to me in the same year was when I was going to sleep one night I was frightened and someone I thought was my mom came to me and sat on the side of the bed. She explained to me how Jesus would protect me and I needn't be afraid. She told me to pray and ask him to encircle me completely in his love and protection each night or whenever I was afraid. She said to just imagine when I prayed this that a bubble of white light would surround me and keep me safe. I did what she said and I still pray it until this day and I truly believe it works.

Since it happened at such a young age I grew up assuming it was my mother who taught me this but I asked her when I was around the age of twenty and she said she had no idea what I was talking about, it wasn't her. She didn't understand the idea of praying for a circle of protection or light. I asked her a couple of other times over the years if she was sure it wasn't her and she always said it was not her and didn't know who it would have been. These two stories may have no relativity to each other at all. I just wonder if anyone else has had similar experiences. On the first story, I find it strange that I would sleepwalk only one time ever and wind up outside having locked myself out at six years of age, and on the second, could this be a spirit guide or guardian angel? Thank you for your thoughts.

I had an odd thing happen once when I was about 8 that could be similar. My parents and I were staying in a motel with an adjoining room with my grandparents. a couple of hours after I went to sleep I woke up and thought "now is my chance". It made sense to me at the time, I needed to get out without waking my parents. I got up quietly, went through the door to my grandparents room and walked toward their front exit door. When I reached for the door lock my grandfather turned on the lamp and asked what I was doing. I said nothing and felt nothing. I just knew I had not accomplished what I was ... [More]

Sleepwalking is typically a childhood event and actually peaks at around age six. Your moving into a new house certainly that could have precipitated the event as environmental causes are not atypical. You might, too, ask your parents if either sleepwalked as there is some evidence that there may be some inherited predisposition. The second event is quite interesting but might again be explained as to you dealing with a new environment. Waking up during the dream typically makes it more memorable and we tend to then frame the dream so as to make if more understandable. The brain defines our co... [More]
